Trending in Asia: China’s Hiring Spree

Despite the bleak bonus payouts for banks in Asia, China’s appetite to hire is on the rise. Foreign banks based in China are now poised to grow its revenue and manpower due to sufficient positive activity and deal-flow in-land and with this, comes the need to hire experienced bankers locally or from the region. Relationship Managers and Transaction Banking Sales from Corporate Banking are few of the banking segments that are expected to be filled and banks are not exacting when it comes to a candidate’s domicile; so as long as the language and geographical familiarity/knowledge is not a problem. Beijing and Shanghai has primarily seen an increase of headcount for positions and are more open to discuss placements of bankers from the region.

Candidates from Singapore are less likely to explore opportunities at this time because of job-security issues despite the low or no bonus payouts however, there has been a notable and positive interest shown when China roles are being discussed. In addition, there is an increased interest for these opportunities from returning Asians and professionals based in Europe.
